SEO for US Businesses, Won at Metro Level First

The United States has the largest search volumes of any market we work in and the least useful national rankings. We start where the revenue actually is — metro and state level — prove the model there, then expand. The Numbers First

What the USA is actually searching for

US search is not one market with one results page. The same service query behaves completely differently depending on whether someone attached a location to it, and the difference decides where your budget should go. Here is how those query groups actually behave.

  • National head terms — “seo agency”, “seo company”Highest volume · rarely the fastest route to revenue
  • State-level terms — “seo agency texas”Real volume · far less contested than national
  • Metro terms — “seo agency new york”Where most US commercial intent actually lands
  • “Near me” and map-pack queriesDecided by your Business Profile, not by organic
  • Comparison queries — “best seo agency for…”Listicles dominate · your own page must beat them
  • Review queries — “[brand] reviews”High intent · thin review coverage loses these outright

These are characterisations of how US results pages behave, not volume estimates. Unlike the figures on our UK page, we are not publishing Search Console data here, because our own measured search record is UK-weighted. We would rather say that plainly than dress up numbers borrowed from another market.

Straight Talk

The US market is huge, fragmented and decided at metro level

Holding page one for a national US commercial term is expensive to win and more expensive to keep, and for most businesses it is simply not where the money is. National rankings look impressive in a report and convert worse per impression than a well-targeted metro page almost every time.

Americans search nationally for information and locally for suppliers. The moment a query carries purchase intent, the results page fills with a local pack, comparison sites and review-led listicles. That is the page you have to win. Ranking for the abstract national version of the same phrase is a different, much more expensive project with a weaker return.

Two buyer behaviours matter more here than in the UK. The first is that US buyers compare far more aggressively before making contact — four or five vendors shortlisted, pricing pages read, review sites checked — so comparison content and visible pricing do conversion work a ranking cannot. The second is that reviews are effectively a ranking surface: “best” and “reviews” queries are high-intent searches in their own right, and a business with thin review coverage loses them regardless of how well its own site is optimised.

So we start US engagements at metro level, prove the model on real revenue, and expand state by state from a position that is already earning. It is a less impressive opening slide and a considerably better first six months.

  • National rankings are usually the wrong first goal — expensive to win, expensive to hold, and slower to produce revenue than metro targeting.
  • Metro is where the intent lives — a New York query and a national query are different searches with different results pages and different buyers.
  • Buyers compare openly — four or five vendors shortlisted before anyone makes contact, so the page has to survive comparison, not just get found.
  • Reviews are a ranking surface — “best” and “reviews” queries are high intent, and thin review coverage loses them outright.
  • Time zones are a scheduling commitment — we hold a daily overlap with the US Eastern morning — a real window, not a claim about offices.

Every US prospect asks whether we can get them ranking nationally. Almost none of them need it. The honest answer is that the metro version of the same query is cheaper, faster and full of people who are actually ready to buy.

Coverage

Where our US work concentrates

The work is remote, so no state is off the table. These are the markets that come up most, and what each tends to demand from a campaign.

New York & the Tri-State

The densest commercial search market in the country. Finance, legal, real estate and media, with borough-level queries that behave independently. It has its own page below.

California

Los Angeles and the Bay Area — the most saturated agency market in the US. Winning generally means going narrower than your competitors are willing to.

Texas

Austin, Dallas and Houston. Fast growth, noticeably less agency saturation, and metro terms that are genuinely winnable inside a year.

Florida

Miami and Tampa. Heavily local-service and map-pack driven, where the Business Profile decides more enquiries than the organic listing does.

Illinois & the Midwest

Chicago and the surrounding B2B and manufacturing base. Long buying cycles that reward content built to still be useful six months on.

National e-commerce

Plenty of US businesses sell everywhere and should not be chasing city terms at all. If that is you, we will say so and target accordingly.

Who We Work With

The sectors that dominate the USA search

Sector shapes the strategy more than geography does. These are the US verticals the work maps onto most directly.

E-commerce & DTC

Category and product-page SEO built around buyer intent rather than search volume, with the technical work — faceted navigation, indexation control, page speed — done properly, because at US catalogue scale that is usually what is actually broken.

SaaS & Technology

Keyword-to-funnel mapping for demos and free trials, comparison and alternative-to content that US buyers genuinely search for, and technical SEO that survives a product team shipping every week.

Professional Services

Firms selling expertise where one client is worth thousands. Authority content and visible authorship do the work, and metro targeting beats national every time.

Healthcare & Clinics

US healthcare is the strictest YMYL environment there is. Content has to be attributable to a qualified person, and the map pack decides most appointments before anyone reads a page.

Real Estate

Metro, neighbourhood and development-level queries. One of the few sectors where genuine location pages earn their place rather than becoming doorway pages.

Local-Service Businesses

Google Business Profile optimization and location pages built to win the map pack — which, for this sector in the US, is the whole game.

— Our Proprietary Methodology —

The Visibility Framework™, applied in the USA

The method doesn’t change by market. What it’s pointed at does.

Step 01

Visibility Score™

We baseline your rankings, technical health and AI-answer visibility against the businesses that actually outrank you in the USA — not a national average.

Step 02

Custom Strategy

A keyword and content roadmap scoped to your niche and budget — which pages to fix, which to build, and which terms are worth the money here.

Step 03

Execution

Senior strategists implement technical fixes, content and links as one roadmap — no juniors, no outsourcing, no handoffs between departments.

Step 04

Track & Improve™

Monthly reporting and continuous optimization — we re-test what’s working, cut what isn’t, and adjust as the market moves.

Honest, No-Nonsense Commitment

No one controls Google or AI search — so we'll never guarantee a #1 ranking. What we do guarantee: if your visibility score doesn't improve within 90 days, we keep working at no extra cost until it does.

What you’re actually committing to

Most agencies keep this in a contract you only see after the sales call. We would rather you knew now, because it is the question everyone asks second — right after the price.

  • A 3-month initial term, then month to monthLong enough for the 90-day guarantee above to mean something, short enough that you are not trapped if it doesn’t work out. The wider industry standard is 6 to 12 months.
  • 30 days’ notice to stopNo exit fee and no buy-out of the months you haven’t used. You leave when you decide to, not when the contract lets you.
  • No setup or onboarding feeThe audit is free, and month one costs exactly what month two costs. Nothing is front-loaded.
  • You own everythingAnalytics, Search Console, content, accounts and any tooling set up for you — all in your name from day one, and all still yours if we part ways.
  • One fixed monthly feeAnything outside the agreed scope is quoted and approved by you before it starts. It never appears on an invoice as a surprise.
  • Reporting written to be readWhat changed, what it moved and what is next — in plain English, at the cadence set out in your plan, not a 40-page export nobody opens.

These are the terms as they appear in the agreement itself — nothing here is softened for the website. The full wording lives in our terms and conditions, and you get the agreement to read before anything is signed or invoiced.

No Pretending

Where we actually are — and what that changes

Our head office is in Karachi. We do not have a US office, and you will not find a Manhattan address on this site that turns out to be a mail forwarder.

It changes exactly one thing. Organic rankings are unaffected — Google does not rank your website higher because your agency has a US address; what ranks is your site, your content and your links. The map pack is different: a Google Business Profile requires a genuine address in the area it serves, so that profile has to be registered to you. We optimise yours. Any agency implying it can substitute its own is describing a policy violation, and in the US that is a category of enforcement Google actively pursues.

On time zones we will be specific rather than reassuring. Karachi is roughly nine to ten hours ahead of US Eastern, so our working day overlaps your morning. That overlap window is a real commitment — scheduled calls in your time zone, replies inside your business day — rather than a claim about a twenty-four-hour desk that does not exist.

  • A real overlap window. Our day covers the US Eastern morning. Calls are scheduled in your time zone, not ours.
  • Quoted and invoiced in USD. No conversion surprises at the bottom of an invoice.
  • Your Google Business Profile, not ours. We optimise the profile registered to your address. That is the only legitimate way to do map-pack work.
  • A named senior strategist. The person on the first call is the person doing the work.
  • No fake US address. Not a virtual office, not a mail drop, not a city list we have never had a desk in.

the USA SEO questions, answered

Do you have a US office? +
No. Our head office is in Karachi, and we would rather say that here than list a virtual office in Manhattan. It affects one thing only: the Google map pack requires a genuine local address, so that profile has to be registered to you rather than to us. Organic rankings are unaffected — what ranks is your website, not your agency’s address.
Yes, for organic search. What decides whether you rank for a US query is your own site — its technical health, its content, its links, and whether it answers the query better than the pages above it. None of that depends on where your agency sits. The map pack is the exception, and that runs on your Business Profile and your address, which we optimise as part of the work.
Karachi is roughly nine to ten hours ahead of US Eastern, so our working day overlaps your morning. We schedule calls inside that window in your time zone and reply within your business day. We are not going to claim a 24-hour desk we do not have — what we commit to is a real, predictable overlap.
Our plans run $900–$1,500/mo for a single-site Starter engagement, $2,500–$4,500/mo for Growth, and $6,000+/mo for multi-metro or high-competition brands. The reported US agency average is around $3,200/mo. We sit below it because we run a small senior team without the overhead a large agency has to recover, not because the work is thinner.
Your city or metro first, in almost every case. National commercial terms are expensive to win and more expensive to hold, and they convert worse per impression than a well-targeted metro page. We start where the buying intent already is, prove the model on real revenue, then expand state by state from a position that is already earning. If you are a national e-commerce brand with no local component, that logic reverses and we will tell you so.
All of them — the work is remote, so there is no travel constraint. The markets that come up most are New York and the Tri-State area, California, Texas, Florida, and Chicago and the Midwest. New York has its own page; the rest are covered from here until they justify their own.
More than most businesses expect. “Best [service] in [city]” and “[brand] reviews” are high-intent searches in their own right, and thin review coverage loses them regardless of how well your site is optimised. It is also a map-pack ranking input. We will flag it in the audit, but building genuine review volume is your side of the work — we do not generate reviews, and neither should anyone else.
Technical issues (crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals), keyword gaps measured against the businesses actually outranking you in your metro rather than a national average, content opportunities, a backlink profile review, and an AI-search readiness check. No obligation, no templated report, and it is yours to keep and act on with anyone.
