Your Team Page Is a Maintenance Commitment, Not a Design Decision

When the people are the product, the team page is the product page — and it is the one page on the site whose accuracy a stranger can verify in about a minute on a professional network. A page listing three people who left eighteen months ago is worse than no team page, because it is checkable evidence that you are out of date about the only thing being bought.

The Numbers First

Six things that go stale while nobody is looking

Every one of these is checkable from outside the firm, which is what makes them different from ordinary content drift. Somebody comparing three firms will notice at least one.

  • People who have leftVerifiable in a minute · and they will
  • People who joined and are missingThe new hire has no page to be sent
  • Job titles after a promotionAwkward internally, visible externally
  • Awards from four years agoUndated, so they read as current
  • Insight articles that stoppedThe last one dated two years back
  • An office that movedStill listed, still on the map

The fifth row does specific damage in this sector. An insight or articles section that stopped abruptly reads as a firm that lost interest, and it is worse than having none — a dated archive with nothing recent is a public timestamp on when you stopped. If you are not going to keep it up, do not build it, and that is a decision to make before the section exists rather than after.

Straight Talk

Build the smallest thing you will actually maintain

The instinct on these projects is to specify everything a large firm has: full profiles for every fee earner, a sector page for each specialism, a rolling insight programme, case studies, events. It is all defensible and most of it will be out of date within a year, because the people who would maintain it are the people whose time is billable. That is not a discipline problem; it is arithmetic, and the build should respect it.

So the honest approach is to specify for the effort that genuinely exists. A shorter profile that stays accurate beats a long one that describes somebody’s role two promotions ago. Six sector pages that are actually written beat twenty that repeat each other with a noun swapped — which is also the thing that makes a set of pages look automated to a reader who opens three in a row.

Then make updating trivial for the specific things that change. Adding a person, removing a person, changing a title: three actions that should take a minute each and should not require knowing how the CMS works, because the person who has five minutes is an office manager rather than a developer. Most stale team pages are stale for exactly this reason, not because nobody cared.

Proof is the harder half, because much of your best work cannot be named. Anonymised matters with real detail work well — the situation, the constraint, what was done, what the outcome was — and they are more persuasive than a logo wall you may not have permission for. Where a client will go on record, that is worth considerably more than three that will not, and it is worth asking properly rather than settling for anonymity by default.

  • Specify for the effort that exists — The maintainers are the people whose time is billable. That is arithmetic.
  • A short accurate profile wins — Better than a long one describing a role two promotions ago.
  • Adding a person takes a minute — By an office manager, not a developer. This is why team pages go stale.
  • Do not build an insight section you will drop — An archive that stops is a public timestamp on when you lost interest.
  • Anonymised detail beats a logo wall — Situation, constraint, action, outcome — without breaking confidence.

What a firm’s site has to keep true

Six things, and most of them are about the second year rather than the first.

01

Profiles That Stay Accurate

Short enough to be true a year from now, structured so a title change is a field rather than a rewrite. The one page on the site a stranger can fact-check in a minute.

02

One-Minute Updates

Add a person, remove a person, change a title — each done by an office manager without knowing how the CMS works. This is why most team pages are stale, and it is fixable.

03

Anonymised Proof With Detail

The situation, the constraint, what was done and what happened — written so it persuades without naming anyone you cannot name. More convincing than a logo wall, and safer.

04

Everything Dated

Awards, articles and rankings carrying their year, so nothing four years old reads as current. Undated content ages into a quiet misrepresentation.

05

Sector Pages Worth Having

Six written properly rather than twenty with a noun swapped. A reader who opens three in a row can tell, and so can anyone assessing the site as a set.

06

Enquiries Handled Carefully

Forms that collect enough to route the enquiry and no more, with a stated response time. Prospective clients in this sector often send more detail than they should.

— Our Proprietary Methodology —

The Visibility Framework™, applied in Professional Services

The method doesn’t change by market. What it’s pointed at does.

Step 01

Audit & Discovery

What the current site earns, where it leaks, what your competitors do better, and what the new one must achieve. Ends in a written scope and a fixed price — not an estimate that grows.

Step 02

Structure & Design

Sitemap, wireframes and user journeys agreed before decoration, then a design system applied consistently. You approve the shape before we make it beautiful.

Step 03

Build & Test

Front end, back end, CMS and integrations, on a staging site you can see from day one. Tested on real devices, real screen readers and real slow connections.

Step 04

Launch & Improve

Redirects verified, analytics connected, handover recorded — then we look at what real visitors actually do and fix what the design assumed wrongly.

Honest, No-Nonsense Commitment

The price we quote after discovery is the price you pay — if we underestimated the work, that is our problem, not a change request. And on any rebuild, if organic traffic drops because of something we did at migration, we fix it at our cost, however long it takes.

Investment

Website Development pricing for Professional Services, in USD

Quoted per build, and we will argue for a smaller specification than most firms arrive with. The test we apply is whether the section will still be accurate in a year given who is realistically going to maintain it — and if the answer is no, the honest move is not to build it.

What you’re actually committing to

Most agencies keep this in a contract you only see after the sales call. We would rather you knew now, because it is the question everyone asks second — right after the price.

  • A fixed price, agreed before we startQuoted after discovery, not estimated on a call. If the work takes longer than we thought, that is our risk — the price does not move unless you change the scope.
  • 50% to begin, 50% at launchNo large upfront payment held for months, and nothing owed until the site is live and you have seen it working.
  • You own everythingDomain, hosting, code repository, design files and content — all in your name from day one, and still yours if we never work together again.
  • No proprietary lock-inStandard, widely-used technology only. Any competent developer can take the site over, and nothing stops working because you stopped paying us.
  • Two rounds of revisions per stageIncluded at wireframe and design stage, where changes are cheap. Beyond that, or after sign-off, changes are quoted before any work starts.
  • 30 days of support after launchBugs and small tweaks included as standard. A care plan afterwards is optional, never automatic, and cancellable with 30 days’ notice.

These are the terms as they appear in the agreement itself — nothing here is softened for the website. The full wording lives in our terms and conditions, and you get the agreement to read before anything is signed or invoiced.

Professional Services Website Development questions, answered

How much detail should a profile have? +
Less than you think, and enough to be true in a year. This is the one page a stranger can fact-check in about a minute on a professional network, so accuracy beats length by a wide margin. A short profile that is current reads better than a long one describing a role two promotions ago.
Almost always because updating it requires knowing how the CMS works, and the person with five minutes is an office manager rather than a developer. Adding a person, removing a person and changing a title should each take about a minute. Fix that and the page stops decaying — it is rarely a question of anyone caring less.
Anonymised matters with real detail: the situation, the constraint, what was done, what happened. Written properly they persuade more than a logo wall you may not have permission for. And where one client will go on record, that is worth more than three that will not — which makes it worth asking properly rather than assuming the answer.
Only if you will keep it up. An archive that stops abruptly is a public timestamp on when the firm lost interest, and it is worse than not having one. That decision belongs before the section is built, and the honest version of it is a conversation about who is actually going to write, not who has agreed to in principle.
As many as you can genuinely write, which is usually fewer than the list you arrive with. Six real ones beat twenty that repeat each other with a noun swapped — a reader who opens three in a row can tell immediately, and page sets are judged as sets rather than one page at a time.
Both are considered B2B purchases with long timelines. That page is about documents travelling to people who never visit the site — specifications are the product. Here the people are the product, and the problem is that people change while the website does not.
